This project is based around a meditative process in which the landscape is used as an escapism from the everyday.
Originally I set out to create a set of images capturing the experience of the landscape as an ethereal and somewhat surreal breath of fresh air. This quickly turned into a process of using the landscape as an aid for spiritual transcendence. The result is a set of images that represent the thought process on a journey to enlightenment.
This work is inspired by 19th Century Romanticism and the philosophy of creating atmosphere to evoke an emotional response from the viewer. Artists such as JMW Turner alongside contemporary artist Mariele Neudecker are dominant influences for this body of work.
