My Inspiration for this set of work came from the work of photographer David Robinson, his work with reflections in windows and all manner of reflective surfaces in and around Italy especially has inspired me to take a more considered approach to my work. To look further into the story in the photograph, looking at each photograph and how it has its own story to tell.
I am choosing to photograph the artificial reality of the Mannequins in my photographs because it is something which we casually walk by without really noticing, we take note as to what they are wearing but not the mannequins themselves. They are more interesting than we realise. The Mannequins are scribed and sculpted with human faces, different expressions, hairstyles, they mimic human life in form and appearance. Yet they are plastic, their form frozen in time, they will not change, making them fragmented surreal figures in the reality we choose to create.
“They appear to create nostalgic flashbacks to previous lives and dreams, framed, frozen by their own memories” (David Robinson, ‘Reflections’)
