“Sexy” is the guy you see walking casually down the street, or waiting at the bus stop. These boys are not the “perfect boys” we see in advertising, who have frequently had surgery and use dangerous dieting routines. These photographs show everyday real men, with a variety of different shaped, sized, and coloured bodies. This is reality. This is what men look like and what I am aiming to capture with this project entitled “Sexy?!” This project is tackling a common problem within today’s society: people’s strive for perfection and having the “perfect form”. The female body is constantly in the media, either being criticised for being too fat or too thin. This project takes a rare look at the male body and presents a variety of bodies for comparison.

Media advertising, and celebrities provide us with a ‘role model’ figure; a perfect male or female celebrity looking perfect, promoting some product we supposedly need in our lives. However, these people become role models; we buy the product because we want to look like them, but we also want the body to go with it.

“When it comes to looking good, until recently we were getting by on a toothbrush, a squirt of deodorant and a firm believe that we were god’s gift. But times have changed. Now everywhere you look there’s a sea of finely sculpted male flesh, selling us the latest products and treatments that claim will make us blokes look sex god great.”

I shoot mainly in a studio using a digital camera. I prefer working in a studio as it gives me more control over the images because the light and surroundings are always consistent.
