Memory is the ability of the mind to store and recall past sensations, thoughts and knowledge, it is the sum of everything retained by the mind, when we remember something a process takes place in which our brains recover and reconstruct information about things we’ve learned or done. Sometimes it’s the simplest thing that triggers a memory, keeping a diary provides an excellent mode of preserving memories that are likely to be of importance even after many years have passed.
I have produced a series of images that are inspired by past entries of my own personal diaries, I returned to the place where the memories were created and I photographed what I believe to be the trigger for the memory. The text embossed on the images is an extract from the diary entry. My intention was to create a very personal body of work for public exhibition, whilst retaining some of the privacy that is bound within the diaries.
The images were shot using a Nikon D80 and a Nikon 28-105mm Macro Lens with the purpose of getting close to the subject of my photograph.
